Leading up to UFC 217 VTeam Athlete T.J. Dillashaw former UFC Bantamweight Champion expanded his mixed martial arts expertise by relocating his fight camp to a private gym "The Treigning Lab" in Orange County, CA. At this newly established private gym TJ would be able to bring together world-class martial art coaches as well as teammates to prepare himself to earn his Bantamweight World Title back. Head coach Duane "Bang" Ludwig commuted from Denver, CO to Anaheim, CA three to four days per week for this fight camp. In addition TJ was training at the Gracie Barra HQ in Irvine, CA with Philipe Della Monica. TJ sharpened his wrestling repertoire while working with with two-time Greco-Roman wrestling national champion Darryl Christian and former UFC Fighter/VTeam Athlete Mark Munoz. TJ's strength and conditioning coach Sam Calavitta of the Treigning Lab played a major factor throughout the camp by completely adjusting TJ's lifestyle from diet, all the way to the daily toiletries he used, opting instead for natural alternatives to improve output during training sessions. Throughout the camp TJ worked with elite level martial artists such as VTeam Athlete Cub Swanson, Juan Archuleta, Aaron Pico and Jake Ellenberger. With this broad range of training and coaching, TJ was able to showcase new skills at UFC 217 and earn a TKO finish over Cody Garbrandt to reclaim the UFC Bantamweight World Title.
