I primarily use these compression pants for running. I highly recommend them! I'm currently training for 5Ks and 10Ks as I try to get fitter for obstacle course races, so I use them primarily for running. The leg opening ending at the calf gives me more compression in the quads, hamstrings, and glutes compared to a compression short ending above the knee. This additional compression gives me added stability due to having a hip arthroscopy (labrum repair). They're great for keeping you feeling dry and secure during a tough workout. The one note for me would be consider wearing a brief underneath to keep your man (or lady) bits from being potentially noticeable (especially with sweat). I wear a cotton/polyester blend low-rise brief from Reebok underneath and don't notice them at all while feeling a little less exposed.
