Charis Chan grew up in Castro Valley, California where she played soccer and ran track for a majority of her childhood. Headed to San Luis Obispo where she attended Cal Poly on a track scholarship where she ran the 100m, 200m, and 400m. She began competing in CrossFit 2013 while training at CrossFit Berkeley. She took 14th at the 2014 NorCal regionals and later topped that with a 7th place finish at the 2015 California Super Regionals, the toughest region in the world. In 2014 she began focusing primarily on weightlifting to improve her form for CrossFit. After dialing in on her technique and competing in local events she realized her gift for Olympic Weightlifting. Charis was able to take 3rd place at the 2014 American Open, her first national meet. At the 2015 nationals she took 4th place with a 3rd place finish in clean and jerk. Charis is also a professional GRID athlete who began playing for the Miami Surge in 2015 as a bodyweight and barbell specialist. Chan currently trains and coaches full time at CrossFit Berkeley where she prepares for the upcoming 2017 California Regionals.
